WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

01. Ordering & Customization
How do I order custom curtains?

Start with the fabric you love, then choose your color, header style, width, and length on the product page.

Not sure about sizing? Take a look at our Measurement Guide before ordering. If you're still unsure, send us your window measurements and a photo. We're happy to take a look.

Should I order fabric swatches first?

We recommend it, especially if you're deciding between similar neutrals or textures.
Ivory, oatmeal, beige, and taupe can look surprisingly different from one room to another. Your screen, daylight, and indoor lighting all affect how a fabric looks. A swatch lets you see the color and feel the texture in your own space before committing to custom curtains.

Can I customize the width and length?

Yes. Our curtains are made to order, so you can choose the width and length that work for your window.
Before ordering, double-check your measurements and make sure you're measuring for your chosen header and installation style. Our Measurement Guide can walk you through it.

Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?

Because our curtains are made to order, we begin working on your order soon after it’s confirmed so we can keep production moving and get it to you on time.
If you need to make a change or cancel your order, please contact us as soon as possible. We can make changes or cancel your order as long as it hasn’t entered production.
Once production has started, we’re unable to make changes or cancel the order.

02. Measuring & Sizing
How do I measure for curtains?

Measuring doesn’t have to be complicated. Start by deciding where you’d like your curtain rod or track to sit, then measure the width and finished length based on your setup.
For step-by-step instructions, follow our Measurement Guide before placing your order.
Still unsure? Send us a photo of your window along with your measurements, and we’ll be happy to take a look.

How wide should my curtains be?

For a full, beautifully draped look, Helen Curtain uses 2× fullness.
Simply enter the actual width of your curtain rod or track in our configurator. We’ll automatically calculate the 2× fullness for you — there’s no need to double the width yourself.
For step-by-step measuring instructions, see our Measurement Guide.

What curtain length should I choose?

Your curtain length depends on your header style, rod or track placement, and how you’d like the curtains to meet the floor.
For a clean, tailored look, choose curtains that sit slightly above the floor. For a floor-length look, let them just touch the floor. For a softer, more relaxed look, add a little extra length for a gentle puddle.
Because measuring points vary by header style, see our Measurement Guide for step-by-step instructions before ordering.

03. Fabrics & Curtains
Will the color look exactly the same as it does online?

We do our best to photograph our fabrics as accurately as possible, but colors may look slightly different depending on your screen, lighting, and surroundings.
That’s why we offer free fabric swatches with free U.S. shipping. Choose up to five swatches to see the true color, feel the texture, and view the fabric in your own space — in both natural and indoor light — before ordering your custom curtains.

What does 100% blackout mean?

100% blackout curtains use fabric designed to block light from passing through, making them ideal for bedrooms, nurseries, and other spaces where you want maximum light control and privacy.
For the best blackout effect, proper curtain sizing and installation are just as important, as some light may still enter around the edges.

What’s the difference between blackout and room-darkening curtains?

Blackout curtains are designed to block nearly all or all light through the fabric, making them a great choice for bedrooms and spaces where maximum light control is needed.
Room-darkening curtains reduce most incoming light while allowing a small amount to filter through. They’re a good choice when you want more privacy and a darker room without complete blackout.

What are linen-look curtains?

Linen-look curtains are designed to capture the natural texture and relaxed look of linen, without necessarily being made from 100% linen.
Depending on the fabric, they may use polyester, linen blends, or other fibers to offer better durability, easier care, and consistent draping.
For the exact fiber content, check the fabric details on each product page.

How do I choose between sheer and blackout curtains?

Sheer curtains soften natural light while keeping your space bright and airy. They’re a great choice when you want filtered daylight with some daytime privacy.
Blackout curtains offer greater privacy and light control, making them ideal for bedrooms and other spaces where you want a darker room.
Want the flexibility of both? Layer sheer and blackout curtains so you can adjust light and privacy throughout the day.

04. Shipping, Returns & Support
How long does it take to make and receive my curtains?

Your curtains are made to order and typically take up to 7 days to make. Once your order ships, delivery usually takes an additional 7–10 days.
You’ll receive a shipping confirmation with tracking information as soon as your order is on the way.

How can I track my order?

Once your order ships, we’ll send you a shipping confirmation email with your tracking information.
You can follow your delivery using the tracking link in the email or check your order status anytime through our Track Your Order page.

Can custom curtains be returned?

We want you to feel confident before ordering, which is why we offer free fabric swatches with free U.S. shipping and encourage you to double-check your measurements before placing a custom order.
If we made a mistake, or your curtains arrive damaged or defective, contact us and we’ll make it right.
If you made a measuring or ordering mistake, please reach out to us. We’ll review your order and see what options may be available.

What if I ordered the wrong size?

If you notice a sizing mistake after placing your order, contact us as soon as possible. If your curtains haven’t entered production yet, we’ll be happy to update your measurements.
If production has already started or you discover the mistake after delivery, reach out to us anyway. Because each curtain is custom made, we can’t accept standard returns for incorrect measurements, but we’ll review your order and see what options may be available.
