If You Don't Have a Rod or Track Yet

① Mark Your Planned Rod / Track End Points

If space permits, it is recommended to extend the curtain rod
or track about 6–15 inches beyond each side of the window
frame.
This allows space for the curtains to stack when open while
ensuring better coverage when closed.

6–15 inches ← | Window | → 6–15 inches

We recommend mounting the curtain rod or track approximately
6–10 inches above the top of the window frame.

These extensions mark two points on the wall, representing the
intended left and right endpoints of the curtain rod or track.

W = Planned width of the curtain rod/track
        (distance between the two endpoints)
H = Distance from the endpoint to the floor

You should now have:
W — Rod / Track Width
H — Rod / Track Height to Floor

That's all you need. Our Measurement Tool will calculate the recommended curtain size based on your header style, fullness, floor style, and number of panels.

How to measure for curtains

How to Measure for Pinch Pleat Curtains

For pinch pleat curtains, start by measuring the total usable width of your curtain rod or track from end to end. Then measure from the rod or track down to the floor.

You don’t need to calculate extra fabric for the pleats yourself. Helen Curtain uses 2× fullness for pinch pleat curtains, and our Measurement Tool calculates the recommended fabric width for you.
